Quad Life Prequel

When we developed Quad Life—a short documentary about sound designer David Jeffers' life after a spinal cord injury—we realized audiences needed a faster way to connect with who David was before the accident. The doc covers the aftermath in depth, but we wanted to fast-forward through his life’s milestones and offer a more complete emotional setup. We needed a short, stylized piece that could introduce David’s story quickly—and grab attention on its own. To do this, we created a short animated prequel as a teaser for the full film. Designed for our promo package and social rollout, this motion piece highlights five real milestones from David’s life: a daring kid, a curious tinkerer, a man in love, an automotive engineer, and a hands-on father.

All drawn directly from interviews with David, the goal was to bring his energy and spirit to life—before his injury reshaped everything. Visually, we leaned into a cinematic, stark 3D style to deliberately contrast the live-action doc. It’s not just a preview—it’s a tonal shift that prepares the viewer emotionally while standing on its own as a visual story. The music track David selected added another layer of personal meaning. Titled "Mercury Retrograde" and performed by Rashid Hadee—an artist on David’s own label, Neblina.
